January Scholastic Orders

Dear Families,

I want your child to be a successful reader and for that I need your help.

When children choose their own books to read for pleasure, they enjoy reading more and spend more time doing it.

Plus you will be helping our class when you order: Scholastic matches each order you place with FREE BOOKS for our classroom to share.

Thank you for helping your child become a successful reader.

Sincerely,

Miss. Lombardo

Exciting January

We have had a lot of fun back this January!

We tried each other’s simple machines after presenting…

We did math projects with Mrs. Eldridge’s 3rd grade class that used both 2nd and 3rd grade skills like repeated addition, fact families, and area/perimeter. We also talked a lot about working collaboratively.

We also had an incredible visit from Miss Lisa from Bricks4Kidz who taught us to make motorized seesaws. I am so proud of how these champion engineers were able to show their knowledge this week!

IMPORTANT HLO INFORMATION:

The grade level will still be removing written math HLO and switching to computer iReady work; 45 minutes a week.

My homeroom is still required to do reading responses to their reading from an hour and a half each week or more and 45 minutes of iReady reading a week that they are allowed to work on in class (but please help them monitor their minutes at home).

Students can also practice Xtra math and have info to login at home on their yellow folders, but this is not required.

Students will also start getting larger spelling lists on Wednesdays and can practice these throughout the week for Wednesday quizzes.

I know this is a lot of information so please ask any HLO questions! Many students are not getting HLO completed and I have talked to them about being vested in their education.

I do not want tears and misery every evening, but our class as a whole can do better work than they have been turning in for HLO. I think I have in an attempt to make sure it didn’t become miserable misrepresented the need to complete this work to the best of their ability. I have regular talks with them about this and am holding them accountable.

Thank you!

HLO Update

Winter Assignment Link (Better late than never for grade!)
Weekly e-copy in newsletter of Behavior Log if your student’s copy gets lost.
iReady will be completely replacing written math homework.
Students are required to finish 45 minutes of math per week at home!
We will have some class time to finish 45 minutes of reading per week in iReady, but anything not finished in class will be HLO.

I an an Economy Expert

For our Social Studies unit, students created goods and services and participated in a class store with play money paper wallets and dollars they made. They deposited the money they earned into the class bank to earn interest over winter break!

Thank you for your donations for Eblen charities, students put together boxes today for families in our area.

They learned about needs and wants, goods and services, producers and consumers, supply and demand, giving, spending, borrowing, saving, income, banks, and interest.

Scholastic Holiday Orders

Any November orders must be submitted by the 13th because we need time for them to arrive before Winter Break!

I will still submit them but if you are planning to use any as holiday gifts they must be submitted by November 13, otherwise they will be available in January.
