Yesterday we had a blast at the outlet mall!
Today was a ton of fun! Everyone should sleep well tonight :). We played a ton, ate a ton, and topped it off with a wonderful Sno-Kona!
Monday: Move up day! we will visit 4th and 2nd will visit us!
Tuesday: Field Day-ton of fun, don’t miss it!
Wednesday: “CoCo” and tasty treats to wrap it all up!
Have a great weekend,
Vote for mascot here!
OH MY GOODNESS! I was so happy to see and chat with so many parents who were able to come walk through today! I know it was an odd time of day but it was such a great turn out! Thank you so much! Thanks also for taking time to check out the other classes to take a peek at their work. As you could see, the champions put A TON of work into their planning, design and research and it paid off!
Your champions are ready. I-Ready growth was amazing and they CAN do it. Please encourage them to use their strategies, apply their growth mindset, and apply the coping strategies they have learned when they may be feeling overwhelmed. It’s a big week but it will be a fun week too. This is an opportunity for them to show all they know! They have learned a lot and deserve the chance to show off. Focus on the opportunity rather than the “test”.
Please send in encouragement baseballs back. (These are a secret)
Please continue to send signed permission slips back. The movie will be Coco and we will have snacks too! It’s PG so we have to have permission for viewing.
If you haven’t, please pay field trip fees. The Bricks4Kidz visit is NOT an additional cost. The last few visits and outings we have will be really fun. I’ll send a reminder of the items they need to bring to Azalea. If you’re shopping this weekend, sunscreen/sunglasses/hat might be something to add to your list.
Please read the NEWSLETTER . There is A LOT of valuable information in there for you about upcoming trips, EOG, helpful hints, needs, and wrap-up week.
Stuffed animals should come Monday so they can stay through testing. I am hopeful this will prevent anyone from accidentally leaving them behind and being upset. If they don’t want to bring an animal they do not have to. I have three extra to loan out. They may also bring their own books to school if they want like they do for silent reading. After testing the state allows them to read or rest their head only.
This will be the last newsletter and this week is the last week of HLO and rating sheets. If there is a need, I will contact you directly.
Happy Weekend and thanks again for your support today,
Progress reports are coming home today as well as a MASSIVE stack of hard work your champions have completed since the last report card. As always, my clerical helpers are very awesome but mistakes happen so if you find papers that belong to someone else please return them.
Please sign and return the progress report envelopes as soon as possible. They did not give us new stickers so just sign under your last one please.
Permission slips for the end of the year movie party are in the envelopes. Please sign them and circle yes or no so we know if your champion is allowed to participate. If your champion is not going to be at school, please circle no and still return it.
Please also sign and return the Bricks4Kidz in-school field trip as soon as possible! This is at no extra cost. They love these activities!
Please return encouragement baseballs. These are printed on the back of the “Game Day” information sheet about testing. I included it in an envelope so you can tape them down and return them. Please remember this is a surprise for testing day. Each day I will give them a note from you and myself and also their book buddies. It’s just to give them a little pep for the day. They may also bring a stuffed animal to school on 6/18 and should be prepared for it to stay through the 20th. I know it’s hard to part with them at bedtime but it’s worse when they arrive and realize they don’t have a furry friend for the day.
We still need chaperones willing to brave the outlet mall and Azalea park with us….come on….I know spending all day at a mall on a scavenger hunt and all day at a park (with shelter!) sounds awesome! Also, if you have craft supplies you can donate for us to have a little craft station under the shelter, please send them in. This is just a nice break from playing so they can spend some time in the shade. Please review the newsletter for all the supplies they need for this park day.
The market day was AMAZING! Ask them how debits and credits work and let them help you balance your register! They benefit from the calculator practice too!
You can also view our goat visit and Carl Sandburg Home tour here. I am not a great photographer but it was a super fun day!
We will begin our diorama work this week! If your champion has any items they would like to bring to work on theirs with, they may. I think they will be really awesome.
Last year this project was a TON OF FUN! We have invited you, 2nd, and 4th grade to our gallery walk where champions will tell you about their landform/diorama as you walk through and see everyone’s.
This will be the last week of homework! Finish strong!
Super proud of the I-Ready growth! I was able to email each family this week with growth so I hope you have had a chance to give your champion a shout out and show them their hard work is paying off. I do not share these results with champions.
Thanks for your support, we’re almost there! Keep up the good work!
HUGE SHOUTOUT to Mrs. Liz Smith for dedicating TWO full days to organizing our grade level library. I did this over break and it is NOT easy. Our librarians try to keep it in order but it’s a daunting task. We appreciate your hard work and time you shared helping us get organized. I personally thank you because it saved me a lot of personal weekend, night, and more holiday break time.
Thank you also to those of you who are following our illness policy. We really appreciate your efforts to protect the rest of us.
We wrapped up testing this week and so many of our champions made HUGE growth. I am in the process of emailing you to SCREAM my excitement with your champion’s score due to their growth mindset, perseverance and effort. I am really proud of them. Please do not email me about the scores, I am working on getting to everyone and you can expect to receive an email this coming week IF your champion has completed testing. If they have not (5 in my class) then you will get an email once they have finished. The results of this assessment will guide my instruction during review to make sure each student gets extra practice in their specific area of need and also enrichment opportunities for those who have a strong grip on the content.
I expect homework to be completed through 6/16/18 since the previous weeks’ homework is due that day. please make sure they are completing their homework. Those who do not, have to do it at school and it’s just one more thing for them to do there. Please help them put first things first. If reminding them is a challenge, check out my parent resource page and consider creating a responsibility checklist for your champion so they are aware of afternoon/evening expectations and have a reminder. You could even offer a reward if they can remember to knock out their responsibilities 2,3,5,7 days in a row! They WILL surprise you if you teach them the list.
During these last few weeks of school, it seems we should be winding down. In some ways we are but we are also gearing up for an important part of the year. This is your champion’s first year of testing and that brings a little anxiety. We are working on our “game day” motivation activities and you will send in the notes-due by 6/8 so we have some cushion if people forget. Please try to get them in on time. THEY ARE A SURPRISE, PLEASE DON’T TELL YOUR CHAMPION. I will put them on their desks each morning before testing for them. I always tell them that I know they may seem anxious but they should also be excited! It’s a chance for them to show ALL they know and have learned this year! It doesn’t have to be scary, it can be exciting. It’s all about our mindset. If YOU are feeling nervous, you champion will pick up on that. Please make sure you only encourage them and try not to make reference to the hard parts of testing. They have taken the BOG so they know what they are in for. I know they will do well.
Permission slips for an in-school trip will come home soon as well as for our post-EOG secret celebration.
On 6/15, you are invited to visit us for a gallery walk of our landform dioramas. Students will have research to share as you walk around. You will walk through the gallery and ask questions to the champions displaying their work. Once the presentation time is over, you are welcome to sign them out. There will be a sign in sheet when you arrive and you will mark that the champion will be going home with you after. All champions need to be signed out prior to 2:30 to avoid traffic issues inside and in car line and carpool.
Lots of information in our Newsletter for you each week. Please keep up with important dates. They are also on the “Important Dates” page.
Thanks for your time, happy weekend.
